Mixed Media Autumn Leaves

Growing up in Utah, I always looked forward to the changing leaves in autumn. Having now lived in Arizona most of my life, I do miss it. Driving up the mountains with my grandparents to see the beautiful fall colors. I’m so grateful for the time I had with them.

I did my best to find real leaves to use, but the desert isn’t exactly ripe with foliage, so I had to get creative! This took me forever, but it was so fun making my own leaves using printer and cardstock paper, pen, watercolors, acrylic paints, scissors, and a little stitching.

I’m really enjoying the Fodder School Challenge 2024 and just taking my time working on each project. It’s good for my soul.

I (finally!!) feel the autumn vibes here in Arizona. What about you? How is the weather where you are?

Free Autumn Leaves Printable

Finding free printable fall leaves was harder than expected, so I made them for the class!

If you want to create your own custom leaves, here’s a quick step-by-step:

  1. Print My Templates: Used my printed leaf templates.
  2. Add Color: Watercolor over the printed paper and let it dry overnight.
  3. Reinforce: Glue the painted paper onto cardstock and let it dry overnight.
  4. Add Details: Use acrylic markers and pens for fine details and let it dry overnight.
  5. Final Touch: Cut them out to use!

You could try this with any shape, but I stuck with autumn leaves and had fun adding details with fall-colored Posca pens. Hope this helps and sparks some creativity!
